Mr. Speaker, let us take a look at what the Conservatives waste taxpayer money on instead of helping seniors, especially low-income seniors when they retire: inefficient private pension plans; billions for failed fighter jets; and let us not forget glow sticks and gazebos in Muskoka.
NDP MPs consulting with Canadians on reckless Conservative pension changes
WINNIPEG – New Democrat Seniors Critic Irene Mathyssen visited Winnipeg today to consult with local families and seniors on how to best protect retirees from Stephen Harper’s plan to raise the OAS eligibility age from 65 to 67.
OTTAWA – NDP MP Laurin Liu (Rivière-des-Milles-Îles) has tabled a bill that would automatically register all Canadian seniors for the Guaranteed Income Supplement. She was joined by Seniors Critic Irene Mathyssen (London–Fanshawe), Deputy Seniors Critic Lysane Blanchette-Lamothe (Pierrefonds–Dollard), and Danis Prud’homme, Executive Director of the FADOQ.
Ms. Irene Mathyssen (London—Fanshawe, NDP):
Mr. Speaker, Canadians know there were dirty tricks on the last campaign and they want an inquiry. What are the Conservatives hiding?
Elections Canada is now asking for the age of those who received the fraudulent calls and evidence suggests that an overwhelming number of those targeted were seniors. We are talking about seniors who are vulnerable to being misled and who were first identified as not supporting the Conservatives.
